Simple Top
Border Scrolling Script
Tip submitted by: Abby
Although we work hard at
the art of stationery creation here at
Downhome, sometimes a scrolling script can enhance the
beauty of the stationery itself or the midi attached with it.
There's two different scripts used widely here at downhome... a simple
vertical scroll and a simple
horizontal scroll.
Worth noting, however,
if you create a stationery you wish to use over and over again, you
will need to compile the stationery using OE's wizard or save your
stats as if you were snagging them from the newsgroups.
Click
here to download the !00topscroll.htm file in a zipped format. Extract directly to your C:/Program Files/Common Files/Microsoft Shared/Stationery folder. This will allow you to select New Message Using... from OE's menu options, and browse to the proper file in the above directory.
HOW TO USE THIS
SCRIPT
Okay...
if you've saved the
!00topscroll.htm file into
your C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Stationery folder,
we're ready to move on to "how to use the script".
Once you've saved them,
launch to Outlook Express.
Using the Top
Scroll
This
script is a wee bit more involved, but still an easy script to alter
and use. Supposedly, it can be used for horizontal or vertical
scrolls, but I've only used it for horizontal as I've come to love
the simplicity of the !00simplescroll.htm.
I should experiment with this one a bit more, however.
To use the "TopScroll"
script, select
Message |
New Message Using
and browse to the same folder above, then
choose the !00topscroll.htm.
There aren't any indicators where the script begins in this file for
whatever reason and it takes a bit more tweaking, so just remember
not to delete any blank lines that currently reside and make sure
you begin typing on the 'first' blank line.
For
this next step, you're going to set three things. The width
of the image, the
margin
where your text begins and a scrolling
ticker that shows up in the status bar
of OE's window.
Now,
select the Source tab.
Scroll down to about one-third of the source and you'll see <direction....>
here you can set the direction of the scroll to right or left, but
it's not necessary. Just below this statement of the script,
you'll see:
sizew=485
sizeh=850
850's
pretty standard and works for most scripts.
I use 900 pixels high for top scrolls... that way it looks good on
most monitor resolutions.
The
Width designator
should match the width of your image exactly. If you forget to
set this, it will cause your scroll to "jump".
To change the
ticker text:
Scroll
ALMOST to the end of the script... you'll see a bunch of
"~" (without
the quotes) followed by TICKER TEXT
GOES HERE. Take out the Ticker
Text Goes Here and
add
whatever you would like your Ticker
to say.
Now, click your
Edit Tab,
select
Format | Background Picture and/or
Midi.... Preview
and you're ready to go with this one!
